Environmental engineering graduate studentTate Rogerswas awarded a water and sanitation grant by theBill and Melinda Gates Foundationto improve sanitation in developing countries.

Jay Baliga, professor of electrical and computer engineering, received the2012 North Carolina Award for Science, the state’s highest civilian honor,and the 2011 National Medal of Technology and Innovation, the nation’s highest honor for technological achievement. Baliga also received theMedal of Honor from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Chemical engineering professorRuben Carbonellwaselected to the National Academy of Engineering.

Susan Colby, administrative assistant in parks, recreation and tourism management, was named椅子上的the UNC Staff Assembly代表超过27日,000 staff members.

James Guy, professor of poultry health management, was the first recipient of theDr. Charles Beard Research Excellence Awardfrom the US POULTRY Foundation.

Bryce Lane, instructor in the Department of Horticultural Science, won a2013 Nashville/MidSouth Emmy Awardfor instructional programming.

Mike Walden, professor of agricultural and resource economics, received theOrder of the Long Leaf Pine for service to the state of North Carolina.

Entomology professorFred Gouldreceivedthe 2012 O. Max Gardner Award, the most significant honor given to faculty by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors.

Andrey V. Kuznetsov, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, was awarded the prestigiousHumboldt Research Award. The Humboldt recognizes the achievements of outstanding academics worldwide whose discoveries, insights or theories have made significant impacts on their scientific disciplines and who are expected to continue producing cutting-edge research.

Kathryn Meurs, associate dean in the College of Veterinary Medicine, receivedthe Asa Mays Excellence in Canine Health Research Award from the American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation.

Orlando Rojas, associate professor of forest biomaterials, was nameda fellow of the American Chemical Societyin recognition of his contributions to the sciences and the profession.

Meghan Wilt, a senior majoring in textile engineering and chemical and bio molecular engineering, receiveda $10,000 scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. Wilt is one of just 28 students nationwide to receive the scholarship.

Maurice York, director of information technology at NCSU Libraries, was named one ofthe field’s “movers and shakers”byLibrary Journal.

Ph.D. studentAndy Smithcaught the eye of the White House for his work with elementary school children, earning a prestigiousPresidential Service Award for Volunteerism (Gold Level).

The Alumni Association Student Ambassador Program, or AASAP,topped the nation for its work on NC State’s 125th Homecoming, which was planned and executed in collaboration with campus organizations and colleges. The group received the “Outstanding Tried and True Program” award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education.

Yuntian T. Zhu, professor of materials science and engineering, was nameda fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Carl Koch, professor of materials science and engineering, waselected to the National Academy of Engineering.

Statistics professorMarie Davidianwas electedpresident of the American Statistical Association.

Anita Brown-Graham, director of the Institute for Emerging Issues, receiveda Champion of Change awardat the White House in the category of open government and civic hacking.

Gerald Huntington, professor emeritus in the Department of Animal Science, received theFellow Award from the American Society of Animal Science.

Owen Duckworth,assistant professor of soil science, received theNSF Faculty Early Career Award, one of the highest honors given to young faculty in science.

Omer Oralkan,associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, andJonathan Hauenstein,assistant professor in mathematics, were named DARPA 2013 Young Faculty Award recipients.

Professor emeritusJohn E. Penickreceived theRobert H. Carleton Award from the National Science Teachers Association.

Five academic advisers werehonored by the National Academic Advising Associationfor their efforts to support undergraduate success:Christina Hobbs,Seth Murray,Kim Outing,Joseph PalisandMartha Wicker.

Caroline Hansley, a junior majoring in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in agroecology and social entrepreneurship, receiveda Morris K. Udall Scholarship.

Steve Koenning, research associate professor in plant pathology, andJim Dunphy, professor of crop science, were honored by theNational Institute of Food and Agricultureand the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities.

Stephen Kelley, professor and head of the Department of Forest Biomaterials, andFred Gould, professor of entomology, were named to theBoard on Agriculture and Natural Resources, a major program unit of the National Research Council.

Karen Bullock, head of the social work department, was named to the American Cancer Society’sPeer Review Committeeon Oncology Social Work Training.

Vice ProvostBailian Liand his colleagues in international affairs earned NC State the2014 Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalizationfrom NAFSA, the Association of International Educators.
