It’s almost time for five families to move in to the first phase of NC State’s Build-A-Block project, the country’s largest university-affiliated partnership with Habitat for Humanity.
So next Wednesday, a few days before move-in, NC State staff and faculty, Habitat for Humanity of Wake County and other community leaders are invited to an open house at the site of the townhomes located off Raleigh’s Lake Wheeler Road. The drop-in reception, scheduled between noon and 2 p.m., will include a light lunch. Please RSVP by Friday toknparis@ncsu.edu.
The first phase consists of the five completed homes. The second phase of six units is now under construction, which will continue through the end of the spring semester.
The final dedication of the $715,000 project is slated for mid-May. Fundraising is currently at about 85 percent and is stillongoing here.
Individuals and groups can sign up for weekend work days by contactingkyle.semon@habitatwake.org. Construction is on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some half-day shifts are available. Eligible NC State employees can use community service leave to participate in the project. No prior construction experience is required.
